The IT Section of the Winnipeg Public Library is seeking a Computer Operator to support its Help Desk area. Under the general direction of the IT Central Services Supervisor the Computer Operator is responsible for performing a variety of duties and responsibilities in the processing and maintenance of the Library’s technological systems. Responsibilities include performing operational tasks related to system monitoring and reporting, providing support to the Library staff in the areas of hardware and software, maintaining the Library’s asset and incident management systems, delivering in-house training to first level support staff and working with a variety of vendors to resolve hardware or software problems. This position requires independent decision making based on sound knowledge and experience in Library computer systems, the ability to prioritize and organize their own work and to continuously learn new things in an ever changing environment. This position must be a positive contributing member of a technical team of professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Experience and/or training in microcomputer technologies.
3. Knowledge and experience using and supporting Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003 Standard, Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server.
4. Knowledge of the SirsiDynix Integrated Library System would be an asset.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service.
6. Demonstrated ability to investigate, analyse, evaluate and resolve network and PC related problems.
7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
8. Demonstrated ability to type accurately at 40 wpm net.
9. Demonstrated ability to learn new processes, procedures and technologies on a regular basis and to retain such knowledge.
10. Demonstrated ability to organize tasks and ensure that tasks are completed on schedule in a rapidly changing environment.
11. Demonstrate ability to work under stressful conditions and timelines.
12. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and conduct training sessions.
13. Ability to lift and carry equipment up to approximately 25 lbs. in weight.
14. Flexibility and availability is required to fill in for vacations, meetings, and illness.
15. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
