The Position: The Financial Awards Officer will provide the overall coordinator of student financial aid and awards for University College of the North. The incumbent will work with Student Financial Aid and other relevant external agencies including other post-secondary institutions and Aboriginal organizations to ensure the smooth processing of all documentation. The incumbent will assist students with financial aide issues, and will advise on related issues as well.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have formal training in financial management and applied counselling, as well as experience in a post-secondary environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, time-management skills and budgeting skills are essential, as is the ability to use computer technology effectively (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, databases). The individual must be flexible, adaptable, able to multi-task, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; as well as being able to travel. Demonstrated initiative and the ability to advise individuals on financial and related personal matters are also requirements of this position. Crucial to this position is a demonstrated ability to understand cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities. Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture is essential. The ability to speak an Aboriginal language is an asset.

Salary: $27.16 to $33.98 hourly, plus remoteness allowance
