The Position: UCN is seeking an individual to coordinate the Educational Assistant Program in northern Manitoba. The individual will review and re-design the curriculum as necessary to provide a standardized program; provide liaison between all teaching sites; maintain an effective liaison with appropriate departments and external agencies, associations and the northern community in general; coordinate the practicum placements for students as required; assist in the recruitment and retention of staff within the Educational Assistant Program. The Coordinator will also be involved with the Program Advisory Committee and ensure recommendations are implemented. The incumbent will also have instructional duties and will be responsible for classroom management, student supervision and advising, maintenance of student records and grades, and other administrative tasks.
Qualifications: A Bachelor of Education is required with significant teaching experience in First Nation or public schools at the K-12 level. A Master of Education degree is preferred, and experience with distance education is an asset. Demonstrated coordination and administrative experience are required. Good communication skills (both oral and written), managing for results and change, as well as strong interpersonal, organizational, thinking, leadership and computer skills are required. Crucial to this position is a demonstrated ability to understand cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities. Previous instructional experience, as well as experience with distance education technology and curriculum development would be assets. Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture is essential. The ability to speak an Aboriginal language is an asset.

Salary: $26.37 to $39.17 hourly, plus remoteness and coordinator allowances
Educational Supplement: Masters Degree $2,500 per annum; PhD $5,000 per annum
