Case Manager - French Language
Position Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Case Manager is primary contact responsible for the provision of services to an assigned group of employers and their workers. This includes the adjudication and ongoing management of claim files originating from the assigned employer group, the provision of primary rehabilitation services to the injured workers, the promotion of disability management concepts to stakeholders and the coordination of vocational rehabilitation and other professional services.
JOB DUTIES:
Meets with injured workers and employers to provide and obtain information in regards to a workplace injury. They assess the worker's suitability for graduated or modified return to work programs; identify return to work opportunities; negotiates the parameters of return to work programs with stakeholders; conducts on-site reviews of the proposed position, on their own or with the assistance of other staff (ie. Rehab Specialist, VRC); assesses the injured worker's ability to safely perform the duties; and monitors the return to work program of the injured worker.
Gathers, assembles, reviews and assesses information on a claim file to establish acceptability or continuing entitlement. Regularly analyzes and confirms the acceptability of claims; authorizes entitlement to various benefits (Medical Aid and, Rehabilitation); and communicates the decision to stakeholders.
Conducts work site assessments of the employer's premises and employment practices, to determine suitability and sustainability of modified or alternate work for injured workers.
Develops, designs, implements and monitors written case management plans; evaluates outcomes; revises plan as required. Is also responsible to coordinate the services provided by Vocational Rehabilitation and other team members and monitors the progress and outcome of the case management plan.
Determines the need for and ensures the appropriateness of services provided by other service providers (Vocational Rehabilitation, Employer Services and Payment Assessors).
Reviews files to determine whether the current claim is new or the recurrence of a previous injury. Takes appropriate action to confirm or deny claim status.
Identifies Permanent Partial Impairment (PPI) claims and authorizes the PPI award.
Identifies injured workers who have physical and/or psychological barriers to reemployment and provides initial counselling and referrals when appropriate.
Develops and maintains information (size, type of business, employee base, worksite/location, etc.) for their assigned employer groups.
Facilitates multi-disciplinary meetings between WCB internal/external resources to design and implement case management plans for complex cases.
Promotes and supports workplace-based disability management programs. This includes making presentations or attending information/discussion sessions on behalf of WCB with employers, industry associations and other stakeholders.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in a related field such as Commerce, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
Five years experience making entitlement decisions while providing client service
Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently in French and English, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and software in a Windows environment
Demonstrated knowledge of adjudication or vocational rehabilitation or case management or disability management programs, policies, procedures and principles
Knowledge of medical terminology/issues
Ability to interpret and apply provisions of the Workers Compensation Act, Government Employees Compensation Act, and Manitoba Public Insurance Act
Demonstrated ability to obtain, assess, evaluate and rationalize to support case management decisions
Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to tight deadline while providing excellent client service in sometimes confrontational situations
Must have a valid drivers licence and be able to travel
