Your Career:
A career as an air traffic controller puts you on the front line helping move aircraft safely across Canadian skies. Simply put, it is one of the most rewarding professions available.
We are currently seeking applicants for future positions in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal.
IFR controllers combine quick-thinking and foresight to keep aircraft at a safe distance as they fly through large sections of airspace called "sectors". They do their job from one of seven Area Control Centres, using radar displays, powerful flight data processors and communications systems to help pilots stay on course and on time.
In control towers at the country's busiest airports, you'll find VFR controllers hard at work providing taxi, take off and landing clearances. With a direct view on aircraft, runways and weather conditions, they direct and control aircraft to make sure every movement in these high-density locations occurs safely and efficiently.
Depending on the specialization you are selected for, you will assist pilots before take-off and during flight by:
* Ensuring the safe separation and movement of departing, landing and taxiing aircraft.
* Giving instructions, information and clearances to pilots during the enroute part of their flight.
* Directing airport traffic so that it flows smoothly and efficiently.
* Giving pilots taxi and take-off instructions, air traffic clearances and advice.
* Keeping aircraft separated from each other as they fly along the network of airways.
* Providing direction to aircraft as they arrive or depart from major airports across the country.
* Using radar and communications to track all flights within the facility's airspace.
* Transferring control of aircraft to counterparts in adjacent facilities.
* Alerting search and rescue activities for missing or overdue aircraft.
* Co-ordinating fire-fighting and ambulance services at airports during emergencies.
